This manual is designed for young professionals with no experience in recruiting.

“It is socially fashionable,” “I like to understand people and communicate with them,” “I like helping people,” “I want to work in my specialty” … These and many other phrases can be heard from young graduates who send their resumes for vacancies “ Recruiter”. It is no secret that units are chosen, but the strongest win, and not even the first time.

I would like to talk about something else: “What did you do to become a recruiter?” This question is perplexing and makes many candidates nervous.

I propose to sort it out in order: how to get a recruiter without experience?

The first rule. Let’s start with studying at a university. Young specialists believe that the best education for this area is “psychology” and “personnel management”. Unfortunately, this is not always true. I’ll tell you a secret: recruiters with technical education are sometimes valued higher and their candidacy is considered first. Why? Because studying at a technical university is more difficult, you need to make more efforts, show character and willpower. In addition, you will need perseverance, analytical skills, the ability to work with documentation and negotiate at the level of knowledge, not emotions.

Psychology graduates who believe that recruiting is helping a candidate find himself, solving his problems, and striving to change his life for the better, alas, are wrong. This has nothing to do with professional recruiting, because this is work that faces completely different tasks, more aimed at the client. In the course of work with a candidate, mutually beneficial partnerships are established, and psychological consultation is not provided.

The second rule. “I studied well, so I could not devote time to work and attending additional training events.” Recruiting is multitasking, the ability to combine incompatible things, to be in time everywhere, to set priorities correctly, to distribute one’s and other’s forces and resources. If you do not feel sorry for yourself and set yourself the goal of getting a decent job, not in words, but in practice, then you need to learn to combine training, part-time work, and additional training. In addition, the most basic thing that candidates are missing is reading articles, knowledge of the basic terminology and the basics of the profession. The sooner you begin to immerse yourself in the profession, the faster you will be able to get a job ahead of other competitors.

The third rule. Summary. It’s no secret that the first impression of a candidate is formed by his resume. For example, on job portals you can find a template or see a summary of other candidates, use their example. It is worth recalling that a resume with circles and diagrams, an autobiography of three sheets or, conversely, half a page are not considered. And the photos should be business: without dogs, prom dresses, not on board the yacht or near the car.

Well, the most painful place is language and grammar. Write a resume in the language that you speak most fluently and competently. Regarding grammar: if spelling is not installed on the computer, you can always agree on a chocolate bar with an excellent pupil :).

In addition, your resume should not contain errors or typos. Do not forget that your resume is evaluated, including on how much time and effort you spent on creating the document that represents you. Believe me, it’s worth the time to spend on your resume! You can immediately imagine yourself as a recruiter who reads a resume and answer the question: “Would I call this candidate?” Play this game with your friends, listen to their opinion – as a result, you can create the best version of the resume.

The fourth rule. How would you rate a candidate who needs to call after 11.00, because he sleeps earlier, or cannot come for an interview because he is “busy”? I don’t think you want to work with him side by side.

Learn an adult and responsible approach to business, do not be afraid to admit your mistakes and ask for advice – this is all your experience, which is invaluable.

The fifth rule. Social networks! Tell me who your friend is, I will tell you who you are. This folk wisdom reflects the recruiter’s work with social networks. The recruiter will look at your profile, photos, pages of interest to you, and also pay attention to grammar and obscene language. It’s no secret that social networks have long ceased to be personal, becoming a professional tool for building a reputation. It is better to have an exemplary, exponential profile.

So, you conscientiously studied, worked and trained, read additional literature, listened to webinars, made useful contacts, developed the necessary qualities for recruiting, created a high-quality resume and entered the labor market. What next?

The sixth rule. You need to be patient and not to reject proposals to start small. You are young, you can learn, make mistakes, change your decisions – it is not for nothing that they say that reality is different from expectations. You won’t know until you try!

Remember: the job of the recruiter is not to evaluate the staff, but initially to find who needs to be evaluated! This is a difficult job, but if you find yourself in this area, you will not be able to get out: it is so absorbing that you will love it seriously and for a long time. You will have information, lots of useful contacts, have a schedule in which moments of spontaneity are always possible, so you will never get bored and lonely! It’s great when a profession is your life, it’s worth fighting for it!
